Lessons with Nate!
Nate has been teaching music for 15 years
At the young age of 15, he took on his first students — peers. While still in high school, he began teaching at Alpha Omega Music Studios in North Reading.
Nate is one of the unusual teachers who apprenticed classical music from an older age. Music in his teen years was integrated and varied — but not “competitive” in the classical world. As an undergraduate student at Brandeis, he devoted hours a day to getting the chops to really be a classical pianist. Many of the “you got it or you don’t” skills we think of — such as sight reading — were demystified, broken into simple exercises, and through hard work and years of study, acquired.
But his music never stayed in the concert hall. Gigging around as a singer songwriter, and working in theatre. He was a music director at ImprovBoston for nearly a decade, instructing in their comedy school. As well, he has music directing musical theatre in the Boston Area: Young Company @ Greater Boston Stage Company, in Brookline Public Schools, Wellan Montessori and at Bentley University. He has lectured at Tufts and Harvard as well, and mentors students in “Free Improvisation”.
He offers his nurturing presence to youngsters, helps parents set expectations and support their students.
Whether guitar, piano, band instruments, general music, he looks forward to making skillful musical creation a life-long part of their development.
