Songbuilders’ Soirées

The Songbuilders’ Soiree is a bi-monthly participatory performance, centering vulnerability and spontaneity. Precedent-shattering, creativity forward, it brings people together into a new way of being their creative selves in a shared space.

Co-founded by Nate & Milly Roberts in 2023, we bring songwriters — from pro’s who have performed on Tiny Desk, to people sharing their first song ever written — into a surreal, larger-than life creative moment. They have five minutes to get the improv house band familiar with the song, and then we have 10 minutes to imagine and rehearse how the entire audience will participate.

It unites two of the coolest musical experiences: having a crowd of people singing along to a song they know and love; and getting on stage with no idea what will happen next.

We normally showcase 4 songwriters per night, three of them are pre-selected. One of them is an audience member who puts their name in a hat, and gets picked then gets up on stage!

Since filling up living rooms around Medford and Somerville, we have grown to sold-out shows at the Lilypad, Arts at the Armory Cafe, and Cantab Underground.

Music Directed by Nate Shaffer, and choir directed by Maya Bialik, we will be thrilled to have you in the crowd for our next show. Come for the fun, appreciate the artistry, and stay for the delightful community.
